The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is an immigration program designed to help skilled workers, business owners, and their families settle and work in Ontario, Canada. The program is operated by the Ontario government in partnership with the federal government of Canada's immigration department, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The OINP allows Ontario to nominate candidates for permanent residency in Canada based on their skills and experience in a particular field of work. The program has various categories that target specific groups of immigrants such as students, entrepreneurs, and skilled workers. Each category has its own eligibility criteria, application process, and selection process.
Some of the categories under the OINP are:
Ontario Human Capital Stream (Express Entry based)
This category is for skilled workers who are already in the federal Express Entry pool and meet the criteria for one of the three federal economic immigration programs (Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class). Candidates must have a valid job offer from an Ontario employer.
Employer Job Offer
This category is for foreign workers who have a permanent job offer from an Ontario employer. The employer must meet certain requirements, and the job must be in a skilled occupation classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
Business Category
This category is for entrepreneurs and investors who want to start or buy a business in Ontario. Candidates must meet certain net worth and investment requirements and submit a business plan outlining their proposed business activities.
Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate
These categories are for international students who have completed a Master's or PhD program from an eligible Ontario university. Candidates must have a job offer from an Ontario employer or have graduated in the last two years.
Once a candidate is nominated by Ontario, they can apply for permanent residency to the IRCC. The IRCC will review the application and make the final decision on whether to grant permanent residency.
