Canada's Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) is a community-driven program that allows smaller communities to attract and retain skilled workers who want to settle permanently in Canada. The program is designed to address the demographic and economic challenges faced by rural and northern communities in Canada, where populations are declining and there is a need for skilled workers.
Under the RNIP, eligible communities in designated regions of Canada can identify and recommend eligible candidates for permanent residence to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for the program and demonstrate that they have the skills, education, and work experience to contribute to the community's economic development.
To apply for the RNIP, candidates must first find a job offer from an eligible employer in one of the participating communities. The job offer must meet the requirements set out by the RNIP and be in a skilled occupation. Once a job offer has been obtained, the candidate can then apply to the community for a recommendation for permanent residence. If the community recommends the candidate, they can then apply to IRCC for permanent residence.
The RNIP rolled out in communities across Canada and compares most to the Provincial Nomination Programs. Each participating community has its own specific eligibility criteria and application process, so it's important to research the program and the communities that are part of it before applying.
